Grundy Art Gallery is working in collaboration with Gallery Oldham and Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library to develop a programme of activity and events that will explore artist and suffragist, Patti Mayor (1872-1962).

Patti Mayor is by far the artist best represented in Grundy Art Gallery’s collection with us holding 28 paintings, numerous sketchbooks and over 100 works on paper by the her. In spite of this we know only a little about the artist herself, and very little about the subjects that she drew and painted. 2022 marks 150 years since Patti Mayor’s birth, and in the run up to, and during this anniversary, this collaborative project will seek to throw a spotlight on this artists’ life and work.

As a first stage in this process we are celebrating Patti Mayor as part of International Women’s Day 2021 and Gallery Oldham have worked with Alexandra Cosme, a Postgraduate Student at University of Manchester, to undertake some initial research into Patti Mayor’s art, politics and legacy.
